NextGen Tour of Aquaponics WA

NGIWA NextGenners were treated to a special morning with a guided tour of Hydroponic Xpress and Aquaponics WA hosted by Neville Passmore and owner Delia Van Aurich this week.  Hydroponic Xpress is Perth's largest hydroponic shop and aquaponic warehouse and display centre.  Neville showed the group not only the value in this method of growing plants, but emphasised as as urban spaces, water availability and lifestyles were ever changing, then hydroponics were the way of the future for living a more sustainable lifestyle.

Hydroponics is the method of growing plants without soil but using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent. The nutrients of hydroponics can be sourced from fish waste, duck manure or normal nutrients.

The highlight of the tour was the model agricultural systems and a magnificent banana house all working on a simple system of nutrients being recycled through a perlite and clay gravel potting media.

Our thanks to Water Corporation for sponsoring this event.

Hydroponics Xpress can be found at 295 Warton Rd, Canningvale.
