Garden Releaf 2016

Garden RELEAF is unashamedly aimed at helping Independent Garden Centres lift their profile via a PR campaign. It aims to bring more customers through the centres and encourage everyone to have events and importantly a fun time. The dates are now set for 2016 - the 8th and 9th April.

Full details will be on the website shortly at

Zanthorrea Nursery and Guildford Town Garden Centre took part in 2015, raising money for Beyond Blue.

Fact - garden RELEAF works. Case Study

Yes, garden RELEAF 2015 brought more customers through the doors for Garden Centres who embraced the concept and made it work for their centre.

The story below is what Guildford Town Garden Centre in WA did in 2015. Guildford Town is a small to medium size centre run by a dedicated owner and staff. They put a fantastic program together. You might not be able to do as much as Guildford Town did but the garden RELEAF promotion will bring customers through your doors. It will generate goodwill and sales.

“There will be a sausage sizzle and bright blue cupcakes for sale from the Guildford Primary School P & C, as well as face painting from 10am -12 both days by Facepainters Inc, balloons and beyondblue wristbands for a gold coin donation.

Join the Children’s seedling workshop to instruct children on how to handle and pot up seedlings into a cute little pot they can take home and watch grow. Participation by gold coin donation and RSVP into 10am and 11 am workshops. Contact us to get a place.

All donations receive an entry form into the Botanica World Discoveries competition for your chance to win a $4,950 travel voucher.

Evening events:

In the evening there will be a sundowner session, where we’ll be playing host to guest speakers from beyondblue and valued leaders in the horticultural community, including garden writer Deryn Thorpe, Landscaper Darren Senor and designer Cathy Cocks speaking on the contribution gardening and greenspaces bring to their lives.

Accompanied by wine, there’s sure to be tips, laughs and good company.

Contributors from the gardening and local community have generously donated some fantastic prizes for a silent auction, where full proceeds will be donated to beyondblue. The Silent Auction was very successful with products donated by key suppliers.

Themes and Decorations:

The main shop display will be promoting the benefits of quality time spent outdoors and in the garden. The backdrops will be covered in a collection of upsized blue ‘post-its’ displaying the community’s reflections to the question:

“How do gardening and greenspaces contribute to your Health & Wellbeing?”

Displays of herbs for your health and their benefits, fun ways to spend time outdoors including games and picnic products, all themed with blue pots, flowers, balloons and merchandise.”

Owner of Guildford Town Garden Centre, Joanne Harris said:
“We were delighted to be involved with garden RELEAF in 2015 and will definitely participate again in 2016.

The date clashed with a number of other things happening in Perth… However I would think getting a perfect date for all states would be difficult. This is a quieter time of the year and given our sales were up for the weekend (up more than the average from previous months/weeks) it had the desired effect of driving customers into the centre.”

“Thank you to Leigh and the Board of GCA for taking the initiative to assist in driving more and many new customers into the Guildford Town Garden Centre.”

GCA invites Independent Garden Centres around Australia to be involved with garden RELEAF, April 8 & 9, 2016.
