The Nursery and Garden Industry Australia (NGIA) has been honoured with a Biosecurity Award from the Department of Agriculture, for their significant contribution to maintaining Australia's biosecurity integrity. The Biosecurity Awards highlight the contributions of individuals, groups, and organisations that support and promote Australia's biosecurity and the systems that uphold it.
On Monday 25th May, outgoing NGIA CEO, Robert Prince, newly appointed NGIA CEO, Peter Vaughan and NGIA President Mike Mehigan visited Perth to update the NGIWA Board on things moving forward, in particular with the new organisation Horticulture Innovation Australia Ltd (HIAL) which has replaced HAL.
Some of our members attended the free marketing workshop, "Spreading The Word" presented by the Small Business Development Corporation earlier this month. They went away with a clearer understanding about how to manage their customer base and how to implement the best marketing strategies for their businesses.
The NGIA Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Peter Vaughan, as the new Chief Executive Officer for NGIA. Peter has extensive experience in the agricultural and horticultural sectors in the areas of research, innovation and advocacy on behalf of members. Peter starts with NGIA on April 20th and will be attending the Strategic Consultation Meeting organised by Horticulture Innovation Australia.

15 people attended our Pest & Diseases workshop held on 24th March at SWIT in Bunbury. The hands-on workshop was presented by Andrew Manners and John Duff from Qld DAF as part of the Nursery Production Plant Health and Biosecurity Project.
Growers, harvesters, processors, packers, transporters, marketers, wholesalers, retailers, exporters and others involved in the horticulture supply chain can become members of HIA, or registered stakeholders.
If you register as a grower, you will be automatically incorporated into a dedicated grower register.
Hard work blossomed for the nation’s most outstanding environmental gurus after scooping a host of honours at Australia’s prestigious Nursery and Garden Industry Awards naming the top nurseries and garden centres for their unswerving commitment to the community and improving green space.
The weather for the NGIWA/LIAWA Sundowner at Coode Street Jetty in South Perth on Friday the 6th Feb was perfect. Whilst some tucked into pizza and an esky full of drinks on shore, those with a sense of adventure headed for the water to test out their sea legs on the paddle boards and surfcats.
