On Wednesday 26th August we held our Annual General Meeting where our new Board were elected. Congratulations to Carole Fudge (from Benara Nurseries) who was unanimously appointed NGIWA President and Colin Groom who is now our Vice-President. Colin remains the WA representative on the NGIA Board.
The Nursery and Garden Industry Australia (NGIA) has been honoured with a Biosecurity Award from the Department of Agriculture, for their significant contribution to maintaining Australia's biosecurity integrity. The Biosecurity Awards highlight the contributions of individuals, groups, and organisations that support and promote Australia's biosecurity and the systems that uphold it.
On Monday 25th May, outgoing NGIA CEO, Robert Prince, newly appointed NGIA CEO, Peter Vaughan and NGIA President Mike Mehigan visited Perth to update the NGIWA Board on things moving forward, in particular with the new organisation Horticulture Innovation Australia Ltd (HIAL) which has replaced HAL.
Some of our members attended the free marketing workshop, "Spreading The Word" presented by the Small Business Development Corporation earlier this month. They went away with a clearer understanding about how to manage their customer base and how to implement the best marketing strategies for their businesses.
The NGIA Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Peter Vaughan, as the new Chief Executive Officer for NGIA. Peter has extensive experience in the agricultural and horticultural sectors in the areas of research, innovation and advocacy on behalf of members. Peter starts with NGIA on April 20th and will be attending the Strategic Consultation Meeting organised by Horticulture Innovation Australia.
Over 60 guests joined us for our popular Barefoot Lawn Bowls Party on Wednesday 18th November. 12 teams battled it out for the trophy and in the end Team 5 (Amy & Shannon from Water Corp and Mark & Anne from Domus Nursery) were just too good, winning every game of the tournament.

Staff of Zanthorrea Nursery held celebrations recently with tasty wood fired pizza, nibbles, punch and light music. Jackie Hooper gave a great speech, telling the story of how Zanthorrea came to be and thanked everyone who had been a part of its success. Following the speech, guests enjoyed cake while viewing a slide show.

The weather for the NGIWA/LIAWA Sundowner at Coode Street Jetty in South Perth on Friday the 6th Feb was perfect. Whilst some tucked into pizza and an esky full of drinks on shore, those with a sense of adventure headed for the water to test out their sea legs on the paddle boards and surfcats.
