Member Profile - The Green Life Soil Co

In 2001, horticulturists Linda & Paul Mitchener were looking for a tree change and stumbled across an old permaculture and environmental site on Farrall Road, Midvale. Within a short period, trading began under the name the Swan Garden Centre and whilst the range of plants and products they carried did increase, the soil supply side of the business also evolved and expanded. They started by making customised soil mixes for particular needs and specific plants at the customer's request. Over time, this evolved and was refined to the range of soils they now produce, and it was decided in early 2008 to change their name to reflect the emerging nature of the business - and thus The Green Life Soil Co. was born.

Ongoing research has been a large part of what they do and since 2008 they have worked with a number of consultant laboratories, soil microbiologists and scientists to continually monitor and improve their soil products to ensure they are nutrient dense, water efficient, and represent excellent value for money - providing the perfect growing media for their customer’s gardens. A number of their specialised food growing mixes are Certified Organic with NASAA. All mixes are made on site, so they know exactly what goes into the product they sell, and provides the unique ability to tailor make mixes to address site-specific challenges. Over the years their efforts have been rewarded. They have been selected as finalists and winners of a wide range of awards for Western Australian businesses and therefore NGIWA were delighted to become a part of their success by providing membership in July 2017 as well as the opportunity to work with them closely as active participants at previous Perth Garden Festivals. Paul and Linda both hold Permaculture Design Certificates, and have studied horticulture at TAFE. They are passionate organic gardeners and believe growing your own produce has many benefits; physically, nutritionally, environmentally - and even spiritually!
