NextGen Aquaponics WA Tour
Aquaponics is the method of combining aquaculture and hydroponics to grow both fish and vegetables in a recirculating environment. With more emphasis being placed on sustainable practices, aquaponics is a great way of producing healthy food with significantly less water usage and without the need for artificial fertilisers.
WA gardening identity, Neville Passmore and partner Delia Van Aurich, welcome our NextGen members to tour Aquaponics WA on Wednesday the 20thof February from 10am.
Come along and see a different aspect of horticulture. Hydroponics and aeroponics are the major food growing systems for high end vegetables both in Australia and internationally. These systems can readily be scaled down to home garden sizes. Aquaponics, where edible fish are used to provide nutrient for vegetable, herb and fruit production, is gaining a huge home garden following and introduces families to a new way of growing food. Aquaponics WA has a retail store and a demonstration farm showing working models of many different growing systems. You will also be involved in a special feeding session for the Rock Star Barramundi ….be prepared to be shocked and amazed.
The tour will be followed by a BBQ lunch and refreshments. This is a FREE event for our NextGen members thanks to Aquaponics WA and generous sponsorship provided by our friends at Bailey’s Fertiliser.
